The music was an integral part of the show, something which I did not really reflect upon. It might be too late to do it now.
Though I will say, a fellow director remarked, “The soundtrack to a play is always the soundtrack to a director’s life.”
In any case, here’s the soundtrack listing for the show:
The Clash: Stay Free
The Platters: Sixteen Tons
Madness: House of Fun
Ike & Tina Turner: So Blue Over You
Santo & Johnny: Mack The Knife*
“Bottom” opening theme
Blue States: Output
The Pogues: A Pistol For Paddy Garcia
Ween: Flutes of The Chi
Macy Gray: A Moment To Myself
Yuka Honda: I Dream About You
Paul Bellini: Long Dark Twenties**
*2 reasons for this one in here (ok, 3): 1) It’s originally from Brecht’s “Threepenny Opera” and my show has a Brechtian flair to it, 2) I’ve used it in 2 other performances I’ve done, without even realizing it the 2nd time (now the repetition is intentional, the rule of 3 and all), and 3) it rocks.
**In many ways, the theme of the play.
